Breaking Barriers Project.
Breaking Barriers Project (BBP) offers accredited vocational training and learning opportunities for people from 16 years or over with learning disability or special needs.
Breaking Barriers project offer different modules which run at the learners pace. Each module is delivered one day a week from 9am to 3.30pm and offers progression through different levels of accreditation.
The courses are tailored to individual learning needs and each students is supported to develop their own individual learning plan.
The modules focuses on different areas of life and social skills and students can progress through the different levels . All modules have essential numeracy and literacy skills integrated throughout the courses which are introduced in enjoyable and accessible ways. All modules have community participation with learners spending some time in the centre and also accessing different facilities in the community.
Below is a brief overview of the BBP training modules currently offered:
Module 1 - Independent Living Skills
What are independent living skills?, personal responsibility, identyfying personal strengths and areas for improvement, building confidence to undertake daily living tasks including household responsibilities.
Module 2 - Me and Others
Me and Others will cover: Increasing awareness of self, identifying strengths and areas for improvement, awareness of personal feeling and emotions, personal presentation skills, giving opinions, and recognising personal achievements.
Module 3 - Promoting Healthy Living
Awareness of promoting personal health, lifestyle improvements, healthy eating awareness and food preparation, personal hygiene, identyfying causes of stress, developing coping strategies. This couse also focuses on using the gym, healthy living, healthy eating and getting to know myself.
Module 4 - Community Awareness
Awareness of, and access to local amenities, planning a journey, purchasing tickets, money handling, using public transport, appropriate clothing, personal safety.
Module 5 - Personal Development
Recognise own strengths and weaknesses, recognise and develop own personal skills and achievements, identyfy personal relationships, make positive decisions, set personal objectives and action plans for self improvements.
Module 6 - Working as a Team
Understand team roles and working together, communication skills, appropriate body language, working as a team, useing appropriate behaviour, fundraising events and completing team activities, confidence and self esteem.
